Why does the supervising adult need to have good hearing?
The role of the adult calibration exercise in achieving accurate results.
The adult completes a short calibration activity at the beginning of the Triple Factor Hearing Screener; the child then repeats a similar exercise when playing the Speech in Quiet game. It’s important that the adult listens carefully and uses the same headphones/earbuds that the child will use, and both complete testing in the same quiet environment.
If the adult’s calibration result is significantly worse than the child’s, it can affect the final score. This will be indicated in the first paragraph of the report.
In this case, the adult will need to redo the exercise or to find another adult with known good hearing. If an adult consistently scores worse than the child, they may wish to arrange their own hearing check.
